Technical Seminar on "Plastics Recycling and Waste Management" was organized on 31^st January, 2014 at Kochi. The Seminar was inaugurated by Shri Avinash Joshi, I.A.S., Joint Secretary, (Petrochemicals), DCPC, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Govt. of India. The speakers briefed on the following topics:

• Plastics Waste Management - Technological Options, Environmental Legislation & CIPET's Initiatives
• Plastic Waste Management - Kerala Scenario
• Waste Plastic Management - A new Look
• Recycling of Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET)
• Feasible Technologies for Solid & Liquid Waste Management in Kerala
• Plastic Waste Management Rule 2011 - An Overview
• Recycling Parks - A New Perspective for India

About 200 participants including State Government Officials, Plastics manufacturers, processors, recyclers, and distributors from Kochi, Kottayam, Kozhikode, Kannur, Alappuzha etc., people from press and media, NGOs, and Students along with their parents were attended the Technical Seminar.

The poster and slogan writing competitions on the topic "Plastics Waste Management" for school students from class VI to X were held during 16-12-2013 to 16-01-2014 at the following schools:
1. Kendriya Vidyalaya, Ernakulam,
2. Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kavaratti, Lakshadweep,
3. Govt. Senior Sec. School, Agatti, Lakshadweep.
